Foreign Entanglement and Present Implications

George Washington’s Farewell Address was made on September 17, 1796. In it he warned the country of how ideals and beliefs would lead the nation to its end. One of the core themes in his speech was foreign entanglement, and foreign influence upon our own domestic affairs and government. Quoting from

“Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it. Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people,                                                                                                                                  to surrender their interests.

The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop. Europe has a set of primary interests which to us have none; or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves by artificial ties in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.”

This principle rests upon the idea that the world is not our friend, and that as Americans we need to stay vigilant against such warrants. To stay outside of the influences of foreign nations, and to maintain our own status quo, we would remain outside of political interference and interaction. Trade, economic openness and money would flow, and our interaction with other political entities would be handled through diplomacy. We would remain an introspective country, and we would first look towards domestic issues – as opposed to international solutions.

At present, internationalism stemming from Spanish-American Jingoism and the World Wars has led to political pundits and presidents working with foreign leaders to solve issues that do not involve the United States. This includes our bending to Mexico’s immigration, our entire importation system from Chinese goods and Middle Eastern oil, and international military practices that are sparking tension. Foreign Entanglement principles are non-existent. Our debts are held in foreign hands, pressures force United States leaders to do the will of foreign countries, and religious zeal has forced military maneuvers to be questioned repeatedly.

If we were to adapt the principle of foreign entanglement today, here are for following that might result:

~ American oil and natural gas industries would flourish, and our importation would lower to around 5-15%, as opposed to current figures

~ We would actually product objects of use – made in America!!!, and export more than the cardboard boxes sent to us from China

~ Any imports will be tariffed, and we will protect American industry.

~ Our (hopefully) Conservative leaders would aim towards shrinking the government, cutting down on international programs that are no longer needed

~ Energy costs would lower, and there would be less inflation as transportation costs lower as well

The results of our fixing domestic problems, as opposed to international issues, would be exponential in their success. Internationalism is soon to lead to war, as proven by efforts in Libya, tension from military practices in the Black Sea and near North Korea, and Chinese cyber-attacks our security infrastructure. Where did Foreign Entanglement go, and how do we transition into it?!

Debt Ceiling Issue

The first question to ask is: what is the debt ceiling? It is a limit on our spending and budget, the figure resting upon our foreign debts and currency values. At this moment we are approaching, or at, our debt ceiling of 14 TRILLION DOLLARS. We are on no track to stop spending, create a viable budget that is pro-business and common sense, or cut random programs of the government. The United States faces inflation of the dollar, and so the dollar’s value will be less and prices will rise. We are currently not at the best financial state.

Here are the repercussions of raising the debt ceiling – the current government officials will be able to continue running us into debt, and we will be farther from cutting back as there is less incentive. We will have more to owe towards foreign nations, and we will immerse ourselves further in foreign entanglement.

Here are a couple visuals for you……

Like the last cartoon, our currency value will continue to depreciate into nothing as we continue to devalue it through obscene measures. Stop the rise of the debt ceiling.

Obamacare Declared Unconstitutional and Void

While everyone is being distracted by Dem. Anthony Weiner’s scandal, a most important case challenging the constitutionality and ethics of Obamacare under the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. This series of court cases is declaring Obamacare officially unconstitutional and void, due to both its mandating insurance and its hold over the medical field. Unites States Diplomacy Fails… Again.

Our tactful leaders have again failed to act well among company….. Obama’s traveling to pubs is complete lunacy when looking at the worst tornado season in decades. Our interruption of the English national anthem, and Michelle Obama ignoring customs and, equivalently, raping the queen is not acceptable. And our being imbeciles will not end! Let us pray that common sense shall come to dictate the government’s limits and actions…
